Before her death, she forgave Alessandro and expressed her desire for him to be with her in heaven. In 1950, Maria was canonized by Pope Pius XII, and her mother, siblings, and Alessandro were present at the ceremony. She is the patron saint of youth, purity, and victims of rape.
